KNOW YOUR METER
- The digits in red colour indicates water consumed in litres. It is to be noted that the last digit rotates at the consumption of 10 Liters of water. As such if the last two digits in red is showing 02 then it indicates 20 Liters of water consumption.
- The digits in black colour indicates water consumed in Kilo-Litres. (1 KL=1000 Liters). Example: If the reading in meter is 0035960 then water consumed is 359.60 KL (359600 Liters).
KNOW YOUR WATER BILL
The monthly water bill of GMDW&SB is calculated on the basis of water consumption and No. of billing days.
Illustrative Calculation of Bill:
If current reading is 0035960 and previous reading is 0029545 then
Current reading (0035960) - Previous reading (0029545) = Water Consumption 64.15 KL (64150 Liters)

Slab wise Calculation of bill for 64.15 KL consumption of Water considering tariff rate of Individual Household:
1st Slab: {10KL/30days (0.33KL) x No of billing days (say 35days)} x Rate (Rs.22)
=11.67 KL x Rs.22 = Rs. 256.67
2nd Slab: {10KL/30days (0.33KL) x No of billing days (say 35days)} x Rate (Rs.25)
=11.67 KL x Rs.25 = Rs. 291.67
3rd Slab: {10KL/30days (0.33KL) x No of billing days (say 35days)} x Rate (Rs.29)
=11.67 KL x Rs.29 = Rs. 338.33
4th Slab: Total Consumption - Water Consumption in {1st 2nd & 3rd Slab x Rate (Rs.34)}
= (64.15KL - 35.01KL) x Rs.34 =Rs.991.10
Total: 1st Slab (Rs. 256.67) + 2nd Slab (Rs.291.67) + 3rd Slab (Rs. 338.33) + 4th Slab (Rs.991.10)
= Rs. 1877.77
The mandate of GMDW&SB is to collect water bill on the basis of actual reading. However, average bill or minimum charge is collected on the following cases:
- Restrict Reading: In some cases, it is found that consumers sometimes restrict meter readers while taking meter reading. In such case, consumers are liable to pay a minimum charge of Rs 500 or average of last 3 bills (whichever is higher). Connection is liable to for disconnection if reading is restricted for 2nd consecutive time.
- Meter Theft: If meter readers are not able to collect meter reading due to meter theft, then the consumers are a liable to pay minimum charge of Rs 500 or average of last 3 bills (whichever is higher).
- Defunct Meter: If meter readers are not able to collect meter reading due to defunct meter, then the consumers are a liable to pay minimum charge of Rs 500 or average of last 3 bills (whichever is higher).
GMDW&SB encourages its consumers to pay their monthly bills on time. Non-payment of bills for 3 consecutive months will lead to disconnection of House Service Connection as per notification. ( Click here for the notification )
