Q1. Who can apply for New Water Connection?
Ans. Guwahati Water Supply Project is being implemented phase-wise manner. The areas will be listed in the website and mobile application, as and when it gets ready for commissioning. As of now, people can register themselves by applying for the new water based household connection from the areas that are listed in the website/application.

The applicant needs to perform the following procedure for applying the connection:

    i) Select Area-The areas which are ready for connection will be listed.

    ii) Select Sub Area- The areas which are ready for connection will be listed.

    iii) Select Location on Map- Applicants need to confirm their household location on the map provided.

    iv) Provide Email Address- Applicant needs to provide their email address for receiving the updates.

    v) Provide Phone No- The applicant needs to provide their phone number. It is mandatory. This will be verified through an OTP and the same no will be used for all future communication.

    vi) After verifying the phone number, the applicant shall fill up all the details as provided in the form.

    vii) Applicant need to mandatory upload following documents.

          a. Passport size photograph

          b. Proof of Identity- anyone from the list

              i. (Driving License/Pan Card/Passport/Bank Passbook/Aadhar Card/Voter ID)

          c. Proof of Address- anyone from the list

              i. (Driving License/Pan Card/Passport/Bank Passbook/Adhaar Card/Voter ID/ Electricity Bill)

          d. Proof of Property- anyone from the list

              i. GMC Property Tax Receipt
             ii. GMC Tax Assessment Document.

          e. The uploaded documents will be verified with the original documents during the time of Field Feasibility.

    viii) User shall check all the details carefully before the final submit of form. After “Final Submit” the user shall be directed to payment gateway for online payment of Rs. 500 as application fees, as per GMDW&SB Tariff policy.

    ix) After the payment of Rs 500, a digital receipt will be generated displaying the Application Number. Applicant needs to store this number for any future reference.

    x) Applicant shall be updated about the status of application through SMS by GMDW&SB.

    xi) GMDW&SB’s Engineer shall visit the applicant premise for the feasibility and scrutiny, and the same will be intimated to applicant through SMS & email.

    xii) Once the applicant new house service connection request is approved by GMDW&SB’s competent authority, the consumer will be intimated though a SMS and email to pay the installation fee, as per the GMDW&SBs Tariff Policy.

    xiii) Applicant shall pay the installation fee through the online portal. Once the fee is received, the new connection will be provided at consumer premises. Intimation shall be provided through SMS to the applicant.

Q6. What is the time period of getting a connection?
Ans. Once the feasibility & scrutiny of information provided is found to be okay, consumers will be intimated to pay the connection/installation fee. Once the payment is received by the board, connection will be provided ideally within 21 days of time.
Q7. I already have a connection in my name; can I apply for more connection?
Ans. Yes, multiple connections can be given in the name of an applicant. But each connection will be treated as a separate connection and applicant need to pay requisite fee for each connection.
Q8. What is the Average charge levied by the GMDW&SB?
Ans. The objective of GMDW&SB is to collect bill payment on actual water usage. However, in case of meter failure, average of 3(Three) months bill will be charged.
Q9. What leads to disconnection/Termination of water supply connection?
Ans. Although the main objective of the GMDW&SB is to provide potable water supply to the residents of Guwahati. However, the following condition may lead to termination of water supply connection of any consumer:

  • If the consumer fills incorrect information while applying for the connection.

  • The consumer fails to pay water bill for 3 (three) consecutive months.

  • The consumer uses pump deliberately in the service line to get water.

  • If meter is tampered by the consumer.

  • Consumer’s house is found inaccessible by the meter reader for (3) three consecutive times without valid reason.

  • If the consumers are found making business out of GMDW&SB supplied water.
